What is IELTS?

It tests Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, with Academic and General Training versions. Scored on a 9-band scale, it’s accepted by institutions and immigration authorities worldwide.

IELTS certification verifies English proficiency for academic, professional, or migration purposes. With Academic and General Training versions, it ensures candidates meet global language standards, using a 9-band scoring system recognized by universities and employers.

How to get certified: Three pillars of certification

1. Prepare

Meet specific requirements, understand the test format, and hone language skills tailored to Academic or General Training versions.

2. Take the Test

Pass the IELTS exam with scores meeting your goal (study, migration, or work).

3. Retake if Needed

IELTS scores are valid for two years. Update as required for new applications.

Choosing a credential

The IELTS system offers two main test versions to suit different needs:

1. Academic IELTS – For those applying to higher education institutions or professional bodies.
2. General Training IELTS – For migration, work experience, or secondary education.

Both versions assess Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, but with different content suited to their purposes. Scores are evaluated across a 9-band scale. Depending on the requirement, candidates take the appropriate test to demonstrate their language proficiency.
